Any fans of Darkest Dungeon feel like a hack of BitD would be obvious and not particularly hard?

Any fans of Darkest Dungeon feel like a hack of BitD would be obvious and not particularly hard? The Trauma system already hews pretty close to what’s in DD.

  1. I’m actually working on a DD inspired game. It started as a Blades hack but I quickly moved away from it. True, the traumas are fine, but the whole abstract inventory and items appearing “as needed” really go against the feel I was looking for 🙂 on the other hand, the operation/downtime structure is one thing I have kept (expedition/surface is what it’s called atm).

  2. I thought I heard Luke Crane was playing with a Darkest Dungeon mod for Torchbearer. Was that a dream? Seems like a better fit, to be honest, than Blades.

  3. Dunno how much people want this thread to become about Blades Against Darkness, but I can say the way I handled gear was to set a hard (slightly lower) limit. Treasure also takes gear slots so there is a premium on space.

Having the right too for the job works a couple of times before you can’t rely on it any more. After that you have to improvise.

That being said, gear and load do have less emphasis. Blades is about getting to the action and seeing the shit hit the fan, not about planning/prepping your way out of problems before they happen.

What I took from DD was the missions tied to various regions, those regions being part of a larger location being “mined out”, interesting interpretations of the various classes, characters being a sort of rotating cast as part of a larger crew, etc.

If one wanted to remove Blades gear system and replace it with a more traditional one it would be easy.
