I’ve been watching the Bloodletters, and I’ve noticed that sometimes people are getting bonus dice for having friends or contacts (not cohorts) assist with certain things, usually downtime actions. I can’t find anywhere mentioning this in the rulebook. Did I miss something in the rules? Is this just something from a previous version? Can I get some kind of clarification?

It’s mentioned on p. 153 and p. 159.
I think I might have an older version, since in mine those pages only talk about downtime.
Yeah, I think that’s something that only applies in downtime.
I believe it’s specific to vice rolls.
It’s statet on the sheets pdf. Rules Reference 2 – 4. Downtime “[…] For any downtime roll, add +1d to the roll if you get help from a friend or contact. After the roll, you may increase the result level by one for each coin spent, by hiring assistance, paying a bribe, etc. (so, a 1-3 result becomes a 4/5, 4/5 becomes 6, 6 becomes Critical).”
As Indulge Vice is one possible Downtime Action this applies also to Vice.
On page 128, it mentions that NPC friends and contacts can add a die to the Engagement roll, while enemies and rivals can take a die away.
This actually bring something similar up I was unsure of: I thought that cohorts could be used to take downtime actions for the crew, but there’s a crew ability that specifically allows them to do that, suggesting they couldn’t otherwise. Is there a rule for them being allowed to act that I’m missing?
Nope, I don’t think cohorts can’t take downtime actions for the crew.
Thomas Berton Aye, that was the thing: I thought they could take actions independently of the players, but what my players pointed out to me suggests that they CAN do them, but at the cost of a player downtime. I thought they were allowed 1 of their own.
