Can you guys suggest ideas for pacts, deals and exchanges one may make with demons, gods, whispers and the dimmer sisters? Mid-session I tend to hit a creative wall when my PC whisper calls on the sisters to trade favours, and the idea of more fiction-first devil’s bargains are quite a thing in our world.

  1. What do these demons, gods, whispers and dimmer sisters want? Even rough estimations for their goals have helped me establish dialogue and interaction with NPCs like these. It could be as simple as getting the ball rolling with drives or desires for revenge, adoration, security or a perfectly matching set of doilies. Building on past contractual obligations helps to keep things grounded in the fiction as well.

  2. Aye. Look at their Faction Clock, figure out something that would achieve that Clock (or stall the Clock of one of their enemies), and ask them to do that.

  3. Adam Brimmer Then maybe escalate the thing they’re currently doing?

That way you don’t have to come up with something entirely new.

“I hate this swamp, and don’t want to be here. The patron says… uh… says we should leave the trappings and weapons of civilization here, and embrace the swamp as one of the natives would. What does that even mean? We have to wear leaves and fight with sharpened sticks? Hell no!”

That can push them out of their comfort zone in a different way – the PC that has all sorts of sword skills but no unarmed fighting is suddenly at a disadvantage while they can’t use swords. But you’re not actually trying to punish the PLAYERS, so it gives an opportunity for that PC to find other solutions to the problem rather than “stab it with my sword”, or whatnot.

Obviously, I don’t know your game or players, and what you’ll want to do specifically would depend on those specifics.

  4. What about using the Forgotten God Cult Practices list? I think they wouldn’t all work for a deal situation but there are some very good ideas in there. It would only really cover what a demons/gods/whisper might want in trade thought, not what they’re willing to offer
