So I’m looking for some ideas on a very juicy devils bargain. The skinny is that the vicious member of the crew decided that murdering a spidery npc with a lot of contacts was a good idea, and plenty of people know he did it. I’ve mentioned to my crews spider that this will probably spark a war with someone and they’re wanting to do a flashback at the start of next session where she switched Sercy (the deceased) with a body double. Since the alternative is war with a tier iii faction I figured it was worth a shot, but there should be some kind of severe devils bargain in the mix.

I wanna know what you guys think, and if you have any juicy complications for the situation. They just reached -2 with the spirit wardens so maybe there’s something fun there.

  1. This would probably be a fairly hefty stress cost for a flashback but anyways.

The best way to have a really convincing body double is definitely to use a real body. Depending on the set up this could mean someone else connected to a different faction someone else well connected outside or if the players are trying to now say they’ve kidnapped spidernpc then the most realistic body double would probably be a relative of soidernpc and maybe they had a contingency plan for their family member being taken out that while not causing a full on war would still attract a lot of direct chaos and attention while spider npc’s forces search for the kidnappers.

But the core bargain is they have to kill another person for the body double and any of the entanglements that could come from that depending on your fiction.

  2. Yeah there was a body but it got mushed into being unrecognisable, would be easy to say it wasnt actually Sercy as long as we roll well.

The faction in question is the crows, but Sercy is originally from the Grinders (Long story) so maybe one of them is the double and Hutton sends his boys after the crew? Not a war but, as you said, an entanglement that has to be dealt with.

  3. I living double, right? Some ideas from the top of my head:

    – The double has ambition of it’s own, like playing along until it’s time to turn the table on the PCs by just giving away the information that he’s fake or by actively playing against the PCs

    – Well, suprise, Cousin X from Skovland is coming over tomorrow to visit his loved cousin and he want’s to talk about the good old times while drinking THE favorite whiskey (you know, which, right?). Or wife or lover, or former boss, whatever suits you. Or some money is owed?

    – Maybe the person had an (animal/ghost/demonic) pet which is acting strange lately in the presence of the (new) master?

    – Secrets coming up and are not recognized as such: Going to a party and meeting a secret lover, nobody else knew about. Will he/she be pissed afterwards, hell yes! Running a little sideshow on the side, like taking coin out of the business for private stuff. Those drugs “you” bought, here they are, right at your doorstep, now do what you promised to do, I don’t have to say what it was, right?
