Hey Guys,
I am currently thinking about doing an ancient Japan-based hack for Blades and trying to reskin (and change the Abilities) of the base Classes and some of them still need a representation.
I currently have:
Cutter – Samurai
Lurk – Ninja
Slide – Geisha
Spider – Courtier
Whisper – Shugenja
I know it does not fit 100% but I am intending to make it fit.
I still need something cool for the Hound and Leech.
Any Suggestions? Or maybe something better fitting for the others?
Interested in your progress. Been wanting to run/ play a semi-historic Japan setting for a while.
Rowdy Scarlett I am still in the Brainstorming but what I got so far:
Setting: A Village in ancient Japan which is in constant danger of Ghosts, Demons and other Monsters.
The Village is relatively new and consists of a lot of great Clans (=Crews) which hold different Secrets (new Mechanic, where you can get an Edge over other Clans).
So political Intrigue and Killing Monsters primarily, there should be no other Villages nearby.
Coin will be Rice (1 Rice is enough to feed a Family for a Month) so you need a certain Amount of Rice to survive, which makes it even more valuable.
and Rep will be “Honor” which represents how well you are regarded but also the Opinion the Daimyo has of your Clan, so it can be used for Favors.
Secrets can be about Monsters (ways to defeat or even ally with them) or Crafting Techniques and even Secrets of other Clans for Blackmail.
Working Title currently: “Hidden Blade Village”
The hound could be an itinerant magistrate or a witch hunter (think l5r Kuni family).
The leech can be an eta working as physician/coroner.
.
I was also thinking the Hound would make a great magistrate. The Leech? Onmoyji.
en.wikipedia.org – Onmyōdō – Wikipedia
Thanks Heng benjamin and Brandon Perkins
I think the Magistrate would fit very well.
From the Description I can’t really tell if an Onmoyji would fit, it sounds more like a “Whisper” to me than a “Handyman”.
I gotta keep looking.
Did they not have a professional Builder or Physician?
New hints: the hound could also be the kaishaku (executioner) and thé leech might be the oniwaban (Spy master)
The Onmoyji did so, but it was couched in the superstitions of the time, referring to chi imbalances, and foul humors. They did also engage in divination of the body. A great deal of what they did involved alchemy and strange contraptions. That is right in the Leech’s wheelhouse.
Do you have any sources on the Onmoyji? I want to stay at least surface-accurate with those Guys when inventing/Changing their Abilities
Best thing I can recommend is Onmyoji: The Yin Yang Master (2001). There is some Whispery type stuff in there, too, but the Onmoyji is more an herbalist and investigator than anything else.
I am working on a Mythic Japan playset of the game myself called Three Feet From Death, I started of doing a reskin but found it didnt fit 100% so now its slowing becoming a whole new playset. Unfortunately we are not to the playtest part just yet but you will be able to follow the project at our Facebook page:
