Two questions for the senior game staff to address.

1: I think I’ve found a typo in the V8 Blades Sheets PDF. On the crew sheets, the Assassins have 3 pips for Veteran crew advances, compared with only 2 for all of the other Crew types (Hawkers, Smugglers, etc). I’m of the particular opinion that it was put there deliberately, since on the previous version of the Assassin crew sheet there were only 2 pips there, but I do understand that with formatting sometimes things happen. Is that 3rd Veteran pip supposed to be there, and if so, for what particular reason? Giving Assassins the ability to poach an extra Crew ability seems to unbalance the game in their favor.

2: I’m involved in a game where a question about the Lurk ability Expertise has come up. Expertise says that you choose an action rating (actually, shouldn’t that just be action?) and then whenever you lead a group action using that one, you can only suffer 1 stress from failed rolls. Would I be right in guessing that Expertise only applies to 1 action period, and you have to choose the action at the time you take Expertise?

  1. I don’t know if the third veteran pip is on purpose, but John had stated many times that the crews aren’t balanced against each other because you usually only ever see one in play.

  2. Fair enough. There was one other question that popped up. The Falling Star Iruvian sword art’s Adept ability gives you the long sash/scarf that’s used for stuff – the Lurk is considering learning it because of the text that says it can be used as climbing gear. Here’s the question – would the sash be included in regular climbing gear, part of the ‘set’ as it were, or would it be a stand-alone piece of equipment? And if it is stand-alone, would it take up load, yes or no?

  3. The weighted sashes of the Red Sashes are specialized enough I’d call them their own piece of gear, but with zero load. The can be wrapped around the body, rolled up, or otherwise easily held without encumbering their wielder.

  4. Okay. Second question, then, trying to head off the thought at the pass – could the sash by itself be a substitute for climbing gear? Or, since we’re talking about a Lurk, the Light Climbing Gear they get? The standard climbing gear includes rope, grappling hooks, climbing harness, chalk dust, pitons and hammer…I could see the sash as a suitable substitute for the rope and the grappling hooks, but the rest?
