Is there any difference between “+1 effect” and “+1 result level” in downtime activities?

Is there any difference between “+1 effect” and “+1 result level” in downtime activities? For example: can you “push yourself” to increase the result of a downtime activity roll?

  1. I don’t think they are the same. Having said that, I’d allow it anyway, because that’s still another two stress being tacked on, which is a more than reasonable cost for the benefit.

  2. A +1 result level I believe (I could be wrong) turns a 1-3 into a 4-5 or a 4-5 into a 6 or a 6 into a critical. This happens after you roll whereas a +1 effect increases the quality of what you do (turns a limited effect into a standard or standard into great effect) but you have to live by the dice roll
