Firstly, I just want to say I absolutely LOVE Blades in the Dark. v8 was well worth the wait, and if everything goes well I’ll be cobbling together a group for it tonight.

Now on to the primary reason for this post: a quick rules clarification. For the two levels of Harm that have multiple boxes (1-Harm and 2-Harm), are multiple instances of Harm cumulative if they both apply to a situation? Say I’m running from a bunch of Bluecoats and I’m both “Drained” and have a “Sprained Ankle”, both of them level 1 Harms. Does that mean that my effect is reduced twice? Or does each level’s penalty only apply once per appropriate situation?

  1. They both apply, reducing effect twice. Same for level 2; causing a loss of 2 dice.

These only happen if both injuries would hinder the action you want to do.

  2. I think the rules say the penalties are not cumulative. See page 31, second paragraph under Harm: “Your character suffers the penalty indicated at the end of the row if any harm recorded in that row applies to the situation at hand.”

  3. Yeah, I don’t rule that they stack, however there is some ambiguity about if Level 1 and Level 2 harm stack. For instance if you have a Level 1 Harm (Tired) and a Level 2 Harm (Broken Leg) and you try to race someone would you have both -1D and Reduced Effect? I think so, but I’m asking John to clarify in the text.
