(my apologies if this doesn’t fit the theme of the game, I just came across this item and thought it might be a cool gadget for some groups)

“His bougies, hermetically sealed in close-fitting glass tubes, were reed-thin wax tapers, four to five inches long, whose wicks were infused with a mixture of phosphorus and sulfur. The glass tubes were scored in the middle where they were to be snapped open. The user would warm the wick end of the tube, break off the opposite end, and quickly extract the candle from its casing. If the atmosphere was dry and the air not too damp, the candle would ignite spontaneously and burn long enough to light several other candles or a lamp in the dark”

  1. Jason Lee I guess so. Certainly not as bright, but who cares?

I like the idea of a rogue carrying a satchel of half a dozen of these candles, using them the quickly illuminate something or set it on fire. Also: If he falls down on the satchel and the glass cylinders break, he will be in tight spot! 😉

  2. Or the 1000 some years of living in darkness has had an evolutionary pressure which has promoted genes that push rods and cones in the retina to see more into the UV spectrum. That may be why no one talks much about needing flashlights.
