When you have level 3 (severe harm) and you push yourself because you’re all alone with no one to help you to perform the action, can you still push your self additionally (4 stress total) for the extra dice or are you limited to just devils bargains?

  1. Yes you can. The text for push yourself on page 7 makes this explicit; it lists acting despite severe harm alongside the other options, and states “Each can be chosen once for a given action.” And you can totally accept a Devil’s Bargain, too; you just can’t get a bonus die from both a Devil’s Bargain and a Push on the same action. You can still Push for other mechanical effects (effect level, acting despite harm) and accept a Devil’s Bargain for the bonus die.

So if you have the stress, you can totally do the Die Hard thing and be a badass despite your horrible wounds.

  2. James Etheridge that’s definitely one of those sections of the book the I had “skimmed” over text because I had seen games played and thought I knew enough and in the process totally missed the fact that you can explicitly do multiple stress pushes. Awesome to know!

    The road to mechanics mastery.
