A couple Scum & Villainy questions for Stras Acimovic
1. Is upkeep meant to be paid each downtime phase or each downtime action? For instance, in one downtime phase each player gets 2 free downtime actions. I’m guessing upkeep is paid once for the phase, essentially once between missions, but I could see if it’s twice.
2. Is anyone else having trouble confusing ship systems from space systems? Does that work out more naturally in play conversation than in reading? Could ship systems be called sub-systems or something to differentiate from star/space systems?
1. Each phase. So once you’re done with the job, do payout, heat, entanglements, then upkeep – then PC downtime actions/free-play.
2. This is the first I’ve heard of it. Haven’t had problems with newbies or at conventions either.
People generally don’t say “systems”. It’s sort of a generic term. Usually you say “engines” or “hull”. Folks do sometimes ask “which system are we jumping to” but those are also usually referred to by name: “hey are we jumping to Holt or Iota?”
Also it’s generally easy to pull it from context. You don’t ask what the quality of the Rin system is, or if you want to upgrade Rin/Holt quality when your gang levels up. Similarly you don’t gate-jump to Engines or Comms.
2. I call them modules
Mark: Ship systems are the whole system (engines, hull, weapons, comms). Modules are the boxes (Jump Drive, Afterburners, Smuggling Compartments) – ie: upgrades slotted under each system.
Ah, right. Never mind: I guess I do call those things systems.
Could call them components.
