So after talking a bit with Eric Vulgaris and Kelsa about Crew upgrades. It seems that most – to many – of the Crew Upgrade advancements seem to forget that Coin is awarded everytime the XP loops over.
Would it be useful/helpful to put a small sentence/line on Crew Sheets saying you get 1 coin (+2 per Tier) everytime you fill the XP track?
Not sure how many others overlook this bit in play though.
I legitimately did not know this was a thing. I know vaguely of the “cost” of crew upgrades but not that there is a payout. Which page is this on (of the current version)?
Version 7.1 page 18 (Advancement) Last part of the Left Column.
I have overlooked it several times.
I just got home a few minutes ago from playing a session where the crew filled their track. I sat down, pulled up this post, and realized I forgot to do this. Though I’ll wait to see if I forget a second time, to say whether it should be on the sheet. I guess it couldn’t hurt.
I’ve been running two games and playing in one consistently for like 3 months or more… and I’m always forgetting this rule. So yeah, having it somewhere on the crew sheets would be super helpful.
This and getting a stress back for a crit on a resist roll are easy to overlook…
Oh, my crews are probably tens of coins short then – I’ve totally forgot about that rule. I might just house rule it out of existence at this point.
I’ve seen a few GM’s handwave it as a houserule…. but doesn’t that then completely change the economy of Coin in Blades as intended? (For Instance, how often do your players have coin to put in their stash? )
My players never put coins in their stash. The slide gets some each downtime, but that it.
This is my Burning Wheel experience coloring things, probably. When you Advance, you do the “let’s Advance!” ritual where you go look up that rule and walk through it together, right? Eh? No? Sigh. 🙂
Adding a note on the crew sheet is a good idea. I’ll try to squeeze it on there.
Ha! Don’t want them screwing it up? Better make it more complicated so they have to look it up. Kinda scary how counter-intuitive design can be.
I completely missed this as well, so I’d appreciate a reminder on the crew sheets.
