  1. No; things would need to go so, so badly for things to reach that point that I doubt there are going to be many examples. Usually heists just turn into high heat smash and grabs.

  2. It happened to us last session. My crew got in over their heads on a demonic vessel (literally a demonic vessel holding the soul of the metal demon Tyranix) called “Eulogy of the Damned”.

They failed to make it off the ship and with too much stress were staring down a crew of demonically altered guards and angry captain of a vessel, holding the incriminating briefcase full of 10 coin of untraceable skovlan scrip intended for Akorosi agents in Skovland.

They literally stumbled into a political hornets nest because the promise of “a lot of money fast” was more important than the danger.

It’d be unfun if they got killed, so we agreed that getting arrested and just fast forward is the best course of action.

  3. I had a crew that did a ‘heist’ once where they threw a carnival to make money and win points with the locals. Then the whisper decided to use the carnival as a cover to murder an old enemy. So many ones were rolled during the attempt that the enemy got away and a fire was started. Ultimately they didn’t make much money, but they did kill Ulf Ironborn at the end of the night, so it wasn’t a total wash.

  4. We had several failed operations in the original playtest. Ryan Dunleavy’s character got fatally stabbed in the heart in the first scene of the first session ever.

The current game tends to err on the side of successful scores and messed up PCs but actual failed missions can still happen if no one is willing to eat the stress / trauma.
