How do you handle healing?
My players use one downtime to recover, which starts their clock. Then another downtime as a LTP, ticking off some of that clock.
Where it kind of breaks down for me is when you have to pick a trait for your roll. What trait do you use for a broken rib? For a gunshot wound?
You could try to study a book on bone setting, or consort or sway with a surgeon to heal you. If you were just going to tough it out, I’d probably just have them roll prowess even though it’s not an action. For the most part however, my team heals by using friends and rolling their quality plus a bonus die for using a friend in downtime
The way I’ve worked it is if the group didn’t have a doctor on hand (a Leech with the appropriate ability, or an Expert Cohort, or an appropriate acquaintance on their playbook), I let a player roll to Acquire an Asset to find an NPC doctor. The effect level of a successful roll determined that NPC’s Quality, which was then rolled to fill in slices on the healing clock. I was really nice and let them wrap all that up into one downtime action, and once the NPC was established, the character could go back to them for additional healing on subsequent downtimes. If you don’t feel like being that nice, charge them a Coin for it.
According to p.21: “Trait” when healing is representative of the quality of the care received. If a PC does it, it might be their action rating in Tinker (because Physicker). If an NPC does it, it is their quality as a potential cohort (also 0 to 4). If the character just lays in bed, the trait is the lowest attribute.
I actually set the quality at 0 when healing at home. I tend to judge the quality by the medical facility and the NPC taking care of them. Other than that, I run it by the book.
So you’re saying I should read the rules…? Haha thanks, I totally missed that section somehow. I think our group gets used to reading the quick reference sheets so much that I didn’t even check the book!
I mean, I hoped you already had Noah Jay-Bonn! But if you didn’t already, or wondered about my reasoning, I gave it
I will finally be revising the reference sheets to include healing and a few other missing odds and ends. 🙂
