  1. Dylan Durrant I’m eager to see S&V, but I got the impression that it will have a “Star Wars” / “Firefly” / Space Opera feeling more than a “Cowboy Bebop” one (which is a mix of well…almost “anything” with cyberpunk / noir on top).

If I’m not mistaken, Stras’s S&V will feature a ship sheet instead of a crew sheet…

In Cowboy Bebop, while the ship (particularly its name) counts, I think that is the type of Crew (bounty hunters, eco-terrorists, smugglers, etc.) that actually counts more…

Andrej Poljak thanks for the tip! Hadn’t heard of that one!

  2. I’ve been considering what it’d take to do Blades in a sci-fi setting similar to the The Expanse tv show. Seeing how that series and CB both have space noir elements, all you gotta do is replace ghosts with cyber elements and you’re basically good to go. I’m not quite sure what to do with the attune skill, but asides from updating the list of gear, a cyberblades game is already pretty much playable.

Something worth considering are handling ships. I’d consider ships like cohorts of your crew similar to how Smugglers crews already function. They are essentially are an NPC who can help/interfere with you when using them. I think John mentioned one time to consider when piloting/using the vehicle cohort, the PC has the option of dumping the stress/harm to the ship rather than themselves.

  3. Ships needs certainly some thinking but I think that they would be rather marginal in this type of hack (which is good, considering the workload to write good “ship-handling” mechanics).

I think I’m going to rewatch the show and the movie and take a lot of notes… and maybe start to assemble a little something…

  4. Thought about it. Not that it aims at Bebop, but the reflavoring for Shadowrun I did is probably relevant. I am pretty sure you saw it, but just in case

Also, it’s worth mentioning that the S&V sheet sounds like it will have a “crew sheet,” where the ship is replacing the role of the lair , not the crew.

  5. Mark Cleveland Massengale yep! saw it and kinda loved it (even though I never played shadowrun).

Didn’t know about that! If that’s so, I’ll definitely have a closer look to S&V!

  6. MisterTia86 the ships are tasked. So for example the first ship out will be a smuggling vessel (think Serenity). But the bounty-hunting ship (think BeeBop) will be there.

Namely – what you can get on your ship (say shields, engines, weapons) is of course on a ship sheet, but being the “crew” of the Serenity vs the BeeBop is actually the point of said sheets.

And yes there will be a set of examples etc for how to deal with ships in the game (as in how you run ‘ship’ mechanics and scenes where you’re dogfighting or whatnot).

Keep in mind that they’re not designed to replicate the shows exactly, the same way blades doesn’t replicate Dishonored exactly – they follow their own universe and fiction. But the hack shouldn’t be too hard.

  7. Stras Acimovic the “tasked-ship” concept is pretty cool! I think I’ll wait to see S&V before attempting an hack/reskin: maybe it won’t be necessary after all 🙂

  8. Mark Cleveland Massengale Playbooks are ready for folks in the community to pick apart (I’ll post them soon as my co-designer gets me the name lists and item descriptions and I put them into the right format – probably in the next day or three).

The ships and the rest of the jazz (examples, starting scenarios etc) will follow when I can get them laid out … which is a non-trivial task, and I’ve got a few super-busy RL weeks coming up.
