Going through the rules and pulling out all the people and places named to get a database of things I notice that the Nail and Bottle is in two locations on the maps done by Bradford Elliott; one in Coalridge and one in Dunslough. Not an issue after all we have literally hundred’s of King’s Head’s pubs in the UK but I thought I’d mention it.

  1. It started out as a franchise, but the man who had the idea of selling the name and standards bundled together for others to run unfortunately had a similar idea about forging permits. He was imprisoned, and his businesses absorbed into the local area, but not renamed.

Or, less plausibly, it was a tax dodge to keep the bureaucracy misdirected by running similar businesses and names in different places. That way the bureaucrats on the payroll could smoothly note the difficulty and promise to correct it when financial discrepancies surfaced, giving time and space to re-cook the books instead of facing consequences if caught.

Turned out to be too much work, and the bureaucrats got too expensive.

Or, least plausibly, she swore she’d haunt him if he ever moved anywhere but the Nail and Bottle, and she burned it down when she committed suicide. He didn’t dare rebuild, so he built a new Nail and Bottle, and her confused ghost didn’t catch up to him.
