A new special ability anyone can take:
Replant.
The operation costs 4 coin and requires knowledgeable participation of a whisper, an alchemist, and a physick in an operation that takes about 12 hours and requires a 6 segment downtime recovery clock.
A cyst of electroplasm is lodged somewhere in the character’s torso. When the character dies, the spirit is released instead of being tied to the body. The spirit has 24 hours to inhabit a hollow. Once a hollow is inhabited, and once the body is where it can go into a coma for a week, the cyst finishes opening. The hollow will be transformed to exactly resemble the dead character, complete with physical and mental and spiritual qualities.
Sort of mixing Eclipse Phase with Blades in the Dark. You just need a shadowy, ambiguously-good organization that’s trying to safeguard humanity from threats within and without…
I guess. =) I haven’t read Eclipse Phase. This is based more on being useful to give to bad guys to make them irritatingly difficult to kill for good. “You saw WHO!? But we killed that guy!”
Heh, yep. Eclipse Phase has the same kind of thing, for everyone, more or less. It’s an idea lifted from, among others, Kovacs’ Altered Carbon. Everyone has a cortical stack housing a personality/memory backup. In EP everyone also typically has some kind of backup insurance that’ll reinstantiate them in the event the stack is destroyed along with the brain/body.
I would say this is much more interesting as something that everyone or many people have. If it’s a special thing for that special enemy it’s just either infuriating or another chore.
In Duskwall, at least, death may be a permeable barrier but it’s not one you can cross back over unchanged, and I think I’ll keep it that way.
This ability would definitely be a good addon for a sci-fi hack, though. I like it.
