I can bullshit my way through this, but I’d like to hear if the community has a more concrete notion on how to handle this:
When an Enemy Faction is attempting to gather information on the PCs, the QS says the PCs may resist this by making a roll. What roll would that be? As worded, I feel like that means they make some kind of Effect roll to resist the enemy’s gather info. But could there be an action roll involved as well?
Here’s what I’m thinking of doing: The PCs are met with a “news-reporter” who’s asking them about the crimes they were picked up by the police for. This guy is going to try and get an interview in their base and all that jazz so he can talk to them and “get their side of the story as he’s investigating police corruption.” Any thoughts on how I should let the PCs resist this attempt at gathering info on them?
It might be interesting to roll Renown for this, if they’re gathering on the crew itself. Make it a double edged sword, from what I see in the QS, renown is used only to reduce heat.
As an addendum to my first question:
I get that the GM doesn’t call for a roll, the PCs choose to employ one or not.
However, would it be acceptable to have some fiction happen and then say, “Hey Sevin, this person is trying to seduce you. Would you like to resist this?” What I’m trying to get at is, can an effect roll be employed w/o a preceding action roll?
Or is the above situation supposed to be handled as: “Sevin, the reporter makes a fairly convincing case. But there’s something about his demeanor that is sending off warning bells. What would you like to do about this?” And thus guide them to make a discern roll, the danger of which would be, this guy is so convincing Sevin is too distracted to get an accurate read on the individual… at which point they roll Effect to resist the seduction if they like.
Eric Brennan oooh, that’s good. I like that. Makes a lot more sense now. Thank you muchly.
