I am a big fan of the Dishonored video game.

I am a big fan of the Dishonored video game. I thought to myself, “How would I represent someone like Corvo in Blades in the Dark, customized to a Duskwall setting?”

Check it out.

  1. It’s been briefly discussed already – in the context of Cults and how they operate in the World, with some input from John Harper on the topic. 🙂 You’ve done a nice job of integrating the basic idea of Demonic Patron into the game, Andrew! I look forward to see what happens if/when somebody uses it.

  2. Yeah, I agree with Bradley! Nice interpretation Andrew, especially if you run a one-on-one game. Though I guess as a gang you could have Havelock, Pendleton and Martin….

You have put some cool work into this, and I may use it sometime soon, thanks mate 🙂

  3. Glad you guys like it! The reason I did it separate from a cult is because it is not like Corvo or Doud worshiped the Outsider and were rewarded with power. The Outsider just sort of chose them out of the blue. That could happen to anyone that the Outsider found “interesting” enough; it is non-consensual!

As for having this in a group, I would liken it more to Star Wars. You have a jedi who can do some freaky things, but you still have a crew that includes a noble, a pilot, the tech guys, etc.

Being Chosen comes with a single special ability. The only way to get more is to actively seek it out–which would be a great down time activity, and also could motivate scores to get more tablets. But only if the group was on board. =)

  4. Of course you get more ideas after going to bed. I would add a special ability of “Followers” where you could pass one ability on to a gang that works for you. Then you could take that more than once, to either add more gangs or to add more powers to a gang.

Those gangs would need to be upgraded to count as “fine” and give +1d when using them, because of their weird powers. If they were ALSO elite gangs, +2; one for being awesome and one for having powers.

  5. Another down side–I would say the Spirit Wardens are enemies of the Chosen, because of the ectoplasm released and manipulated by this uncanny individual. So when one emerges, they take action to wipe him or her out as quietly as possible. =)

  6. Love what you’ve done here. I just started replaying Dishonored and was thinking about the same things. Especially how far you could go to describe many of the extremely supernatural elements/powers.
