  1. The gangs can be commanded to do the PCs biding.

Though unless they are Elite they don’t grant an extra dice to the effect.

They are basically enabling the action within the fiction.

  2. pg. 29, Command action, states that you use it to execute an action with one of your gangs. This would combine with the Scale mechanic, on pg. 26, in order to see how effective your gang is.  And yeah, you’d use the Gangs effect dice.

So if you’re ordering your Thugs to beat a guy down, you’d roll Command, and then you’d roll Gangs, with the +1d for your five Thugs being a mismatch for that one guy.

If you’re not ordering them around, and they’re just being backup, I could see having you use another Action (say, Mayhem, if you were just causing chaos and your gang joins in) and your own Effect (presumably Force, in that example), while benefiting from whatever Scale benefits your gang would give you. That’s just extrapolation, though, and I wouldn’t presume that it’s going to be advised that way in the full book.

  3. This extends to other things in some future playsets. Like a ship, for instance. You’d roll your Pilot action and use one of the ship’s Effect ratings (speed, weapons, etc.).
