Some questions about items.
1. Can they have any or all the items on their sheet, so as the Hound, I could carry my Fine Long rifle, pistols and have my pet tagging along.
2. So if I & my pet wanted to murder someone, would the pet add any benefits to the action roll or just +1d to the Force effect?
3. For items like vial and ammunition, is there a limit to the number of uses and once exhausted how do you replace them?

1) yes
2) if it made sense for your pet to be able to help murder someone, then I’d give you the extra 1d on the action roll.
3) my guess is that the vial is one use but you can carry enough ammunition to last through an operation. That said, “you run out of shot” is a perfectly good Devil’s Bargain. Either one is replaced during a Downtime when you can rearrange your carried items.
Thanks for piping in Jeff Johnston. I was also curious about these sorts of things. So is the gear list more like “I have or can acquire any of these things on the list whenever I need them” even though it takes Downtime to swap what’s actually on your person at the time?
For instance, even if my cutter has never used or referenced them yet, I can expect that she has a large weapon, a spirit charm, and manacles & chain somewhere easily accessible to her if she wanted to fetch them sometime (without needing to mechanically acquire an asset or anything).
I’m not the type that tends to care about shopping or tracking minutiae of gear, so I think I like this approach.
Steve O: With regard to your second question, I think the Hound’s animal companion is listed as “fine,” so I’d probably just add the Fine Item bonus to any relevant rolls.
Adam Minnie: I believe your character has access to the entire item list, and just chooses how much he or she carries. That said, if your character’s equipment is suddenly inadequate for the job, that sounds like a perfect opportunity to take some Stress for a Flashback.
Adam Minnie that’s my understanding, yes. Your cutter might or might not not own a spirit charm, but she knows where she can get a reliable one.
If she’s in a hurry and needs it as part of an operation, it’d be roll for an asset or spend stress for a Flashback. Since a spiritbane charm is on your equipment list and doesn’t cost any load, I’d call it 0 stress to say you talked to Weaver the day before to get one.
Yep, you all have it right. Thanks for jumping in with answers!
Oh, for the hunting pet:
It’s a fine item, so +1d to effect rolls. Also, you can use it for fictional positioning. You get to say things like, “My hunting owl keeps a lookout from the roof while I deal with this guard,” and “My owl flies into the guard room and causes chaos while I prowl up the stairs.”
Those things factor into position on the action roll, or modify the danger you’re facing, or maybe both.
As clarification:
Ammunition, that runs out as a Devils Bargain. ?
A vial could be dropped and smashed as a devils bargain?
A vial is single use?
All items can be replenished during downtime?
Would you allow the use of coin, to say get an extra vial?
Ammunition runs out as a devil’s bargain, yeah.
Vial smashed as a bargain? Yep.
A vial is single use.
All items are replenished during downtime.
Spending coin for an extra vial is fine, but you might be able to get it with an acquire asset roll, “for free,” also.
If you always want to have a second vial, I’d look at the advancement option to add items from another playbook.
Nice one, thanks for the replies.
